Tom Willman

Tom (he/him) was born and raised on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, in White Rock, British Columbia. Tom’s Métis-Cree ancestry is from his father’s side whose family hails from Saint-Boniface, Manitoba. His maternal roots connect him to the West Coast of British Columbia, where his mother was born and raised in Langley, with ancestry that traces back to Britain. Tom is a Métis Nation of British Columbia Citizen, who is humbly living, learning, and residing in Tkaronto on Treaty 13 territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.
Tom obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia, and has been working in social services, supporting the local Indigenous community in Metro Vancouver, for the past 6 years. Tom is completing his Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto, where he is specializing in Indigenous mental health and supporting fellow Indigenous kin on their healing journeys.
In his practice, Tom aims to establish trusting, empathic and respectful relationships. His helping approach can be characterized as person-centered, emotion-focused, trauma-informed, and nonjudgmental. Tom firmly believes that through relationship and the sharing of stories, people can find healing and good medicine. Tom enjoys wholistically supporting those of all ages from young to older adults, and folks from various walks of life, including queer and neurodivergent community members. Tom is particularly passionate about supporting Indigenous folks navigating experiences of depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, and those exploring cultural identity or experiencing marginalization and discrimination.
In addition to his role as a therapist-in-training, Tom also works part-time as a Project Assistant at Weaving Wellness, supporting various community-based and research projects centred on Indigenous mental health.
