Jane Theriault

Associate | Social Worker

Jane (she/they) is a European and Mi'kmaw, Two Spirit woman. Her mother is a Canadian-born Irish citizen and her father’s family comes from Tjipogtotjg First Nation. She is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from York University.

Jane believes that clients are experts in their own lives and works to create a space that empowers individuals. She strives to be trauma-specific, collaborating at every step to ensure clients feel supported and heard. Her therapeutic approach is informed by Indigenous theories such as collectivism and naturalism which encourages looking at the individual as connected to their community, relationships, and purpose and challenges colonial (mis)understandings of mental health.

Jane is CACBT-ACTCC-Certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and values the use of evidence-based modalities, offering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for depression and anxiety disorders, Cognitive Processing Therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder, and Exposure Response Prevention for obsessive compulsive disorder. She also uses other evidence-based approaches such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. She is passionate about offering support to a variety of individuals, including those who are healing from sexual violence, trauma, grief and loss, and those with substance use concerns. Jane is particularly experienced in working with Indigenous women, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and young adults.
