Jane Theriault
Associate | Social Worker
Jane (she/her) is a European and Mi'kmaw, Two Spirit woman. Her mother is a Canadian-born Irish citizen and her father’s family comes from Tjipogtotjg First Nation. She is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from York University.
Jane believes that clients are experts of their own lives and works to create a space to empower individuals. She strives to be trauma-specific, collaborating at every step to ensure clients feel supported and heard. Her therapeutic approach is informed by Indigenous theories such as collectivism and naturalism which encourages looking at the individual as connected to their community, relationships, and purpose and challenges colonial (mis)understandings of mental health.
Jane has trained in a variety of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She is passionate about offering support to a variety of individuals including those who are healing from sexual violence, trauma, grief and loss, and those with substance use concerns. Jane is particularly experienced in working with Indigenous women, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and young adults.
