Haneen Azzam

Student Associate | MSW Candidate

Haneen Azzam (she/her) was born in Ramallah, Palestine, and raised across West Asia and West Africa. For the past 10 years, she has called Tkaronto home. As a Third Culture Kid with Palestinian, Irish, and French ancestry, Haneen’s multicultural upbringing and lived experiences deeply inform how she relates to and connects with others. Haneen is currently in her second year of the Master of Social Work in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency program at the University of Toronto.

Haneen is a second-generation Palestinian refugee and the granddaughter of Nakba survivors. Her family’s experiences of displacement and intergenerational trauma, alongside her own lived experiences, have shaped her commitment to supporting diasporic communities and exploring the intersections of cultural identity, belonging, the arts, and intergenerational healing.

Haneen is passionate about supporting Indigenous and Palestinian communities, newcomers and immigrants, queer folks, parents, women, and young adults navigating life transitions and change. Her areas of interest include supporting people experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss, infertility, pregnancy and postpartum transitions, trauma and intergenerational trauma, cultural identity conflict, family and cultural expectations, and identity development.

Haneen approaches her work from a strengths-based, relational, and collaborative perspective. She values creating spaces where people can explore their experiences with curiosity and compassion while honouring the cultural, familial, and community contexts that shape their lives. As she continues to develop her clinical practice, Haneen is interested in deepening her experience with approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Somatic Experiencing (SE).
