As a grass dancer, Alex maintains deep connections to powwow and community spaces, which continue to inform and shape both his research and clinical practice.
Alex brings several years of experience working with youth, particularly through art-based and land-based programming that supports identity exploration, creative expression, and connection to land. His approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and affirming of Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ youth and communities. Alex is passionate about research that explores Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ experiences, with a focus on the intersections of identity, culture, and land.
He is especially drawn to qualitative, story-based research, engaging this work through a relational and trauma-informed lens. As part of his work with the Weaving Wellness Centre, Alex supports a research project focused on suicide prevention and intervention within Indigenous communities. His role includes literature review and analysis, with a focus on best practices for the implementation and training of intervention models.
