Tera Beaulieu
Dr. Tera Beaulieu (she/her) is the founder and Director of the Weaving Wellness Centre. She established the Centre in 2020 in the hopes of supporting individuals who are journeying towards wellness and healing. She also greatly enjoys working with other professionals and organizations who aspire to create transformative change within the field of mental health and well-being.
Tera is a Citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario with ancestral roots from the Métis communities of St. Laurent, Manitoba and Qu’Appelle Valley, Saskatchewan. Tera practices as a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario and Alberta and obtained a PhD in Clinical and Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto where her program of research examined the supports and challenges of Métis traditional knowledge in addressing the life transition needs (mental health, education and employment) of urban Métis homeless people.
Tera has worked clinically with a range of individuals and mental health issues, and has worked extensively with women, trauma survivors, and 2SLGBTQ+, racialized and Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit & Métis) peoples on their healing journeys. She had the great honour of travelling with and supporting the Métis Delegation of intergenerational residential and day school survivors who met with Pope Francis in Vatican City in 2022. Tera considers the role of therapist a gift and feels privileged to be entrusted with the experiences and stories of the individuals she works with.
Tera primarily practices emotion-focused therapy and utilizes various trauma-based treatments in her work. At times, she also employs internal family systems, narrative, cognitive-behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapy approaches, as well as Indigenous cultural knowledge and practices based on the needs of the clients she is working with. Central to her practice are principles of empathy, holism, respect, and humour! Tera’s training includes a predoctoral residency at the Psychological Trauma and Women's Programs at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She is a certified psychotherapist with Postpartum Support International, with specialized training in the areas of pregnancy, postpartum and perinatal mental health.
Tera also regularly acts as a principal consultant for governments, organizations and teams who are engaged in work related to health and wellness, trauma-informed care, and Indigenous mental health. Tera is an experienced workshop facilitator and educational trainer and enjoys the creative process of working alongside and developing programming tailored to the needs of learners. She is an emerging leader within the field of Métis mental health and has developed innovative and culturally-specific clinical programming for several Indigenous communities and organizations. She is a dynamic public speaker and emcee, and is regularly invited to address community, provincial, and national level audiences.
